Dear Central Church,

Every year, Lauren and I are able to participate in a leadership development group with pastors from some of our most vibrant and innovative churches. The conference is held on a cruise ship, which also enables this cohort to enjoy some rest and relaxation. This event is typically held in January, and as I left my house with a foot of snow on the ground, I see the wisdom in that decision.

In one of our sessions this week, we talked about leading congregations through seasons of change. As much as I wish things could stay the same, I’m regularly reminded that everything has a season, and it’s important to know when that season is over and when it’s time to look to the Lord for the new thing he wants to do in our lives.

In just two years as your pastor, we’ve been through significant change together. We’ve remodeled our sanctuary, redefined our vision and core values, and welcomed new members to our team. These haven’t been easy changes, but God has enabled us to walk through the last few years in a spirit of unity.

One of our presenters this week reminded me of something that has helped us in this season: change happens at the speed of trust. I had a moment to reflect on the high levels of trust that you have given to me in a relatively short amount of time. I am deeply grateful and honored. It’s a gift that I treasure and promise to steward well as we look to an exciting year of ministry in 2025. This year will be full of opportunities to trust one another as we continue to work out this vision that God has given us:

We are a multicultural church helping people to experience God, connect with others, and impact our community with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

This Sunday, we’ll continue our sermon series on the Cycle of Victorious Living. We’re looking at trust, based on this verse in Psalm 37:

Trust in the Lord and do good;

    dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. (Psalm 37:3)

The Lord promises that when we trust in him, we are able to dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. It’s a reminder that even in seasons of change, God is faithful and will provide all we need for what he has called us to do. I look forward to being with you Sunday as we continue to lean into these promises from Psalm 37.

Until He’s Finished,
Pastor Mark
